David Espinel will perform with alternative band The A.D.'S from Calgary, Canada at select shows in Calgary before his departure to the US and to South America.

Espinel is a guest drummer on the demo version of the song 'Meant To Be'. The song was uploaded on the band's Reverbnation site at (http://www.reverbnation.com/theads).
Espinel said, "The band and I met and agreed on recording the song and maybe perform as a band at select shows in the city before I leave Canada at the end of November."

Two shows have been confirmed on The A.D.'S Reverbnation site and on Espinel's official Myspace: (http://www.myspace.com/davidespinel) at The Shamrock Hotel on November 2, 2011 and The Distillery night club on November 18, 2011.

September 2011 Update

Hi Friends,

So I am not sure about the video blogs, my last one was not as good as I wanted it to be. I will stick to writing short blogs for now.

It's been so much fun in the last month and this month. Last month August I played a whole buch of shows in Southern Alberta with the punk band Puttin On The Foil. Unfortunately due to my busy schedule I had to leave the band, I do want to thank Kevin Rowland for the opportunity to play for his band.

August 28, I played a cool show with recording artist Jenavive who is a great singer/songwriter from Calgary, Alberta. Her album called "Under The Sheets" is fantastic, make sure to check it out on her web site and as well on itunes. She played at The Backstage Lounge in Vancouver, and we rocked the joint!

September 1, I was invited by the Canadian pop-rock band The AD'S to record their single 'Meant To Be'. The recording process was a lot of fun and the staff at The Beach recording studios in Calgary, were really professional and friendly. I can't wait till the song is mixed, mastered and released.

September 3, My friend's Dwane and Franz from Invermere, BC invited me to play a show at the Invermere curling arena. The show was so much fun. Can't go wrong playing in front of 600+ people. The music was so tight and intense, that some girls from the crowd climb up on the bass speakers and danced all night. I want to thank Dwane, Franz, The L8 band, Charlene and Eddie for this great opportunity and good time with friends.

Recently, I heard from Jason Hofer, from the Canadian blues-rock-gospel band The Heartwicks. He mentioned that the three songs we recorded back in the summer are in the mastering process and the music will be released on the band's website and on itunes. July 2011 Update

Hello friends. Here is what I have been up to this month. First of all I recorded some drum tracks for the band The Heartwicks in the studio. I took lots of pictures and some videos and will upload the pics and videos on all my sites and YouTube...make sure to check those out when they are up.

This month has been busy with live shows!!!. I have been asked to perform live by a bunch of bands and I had a blast doing so!

What is ahead?, I am currently preparing to play a bunch of shows for two bands, I am really excited since I really enjoy to perform live. I will be performing with a super cool and crazy punk/rock band called Puttin On The Foil in various locations in the province of Alberta...you will see me at my best, trust me the guys I am playing with in the band are super talented. June 2011 Update

Hi friends,

Just posting a brief message to let you all know what I've been up to in the last few months!

I have been jamming a lot with all kinds of different musicians at local jams in Calgary, including a casino every Tuesday night. I was also hired to record drum tracks for a Calgary guitarist/singer by the name of Jason Hofer. We are still working on his songs.

I am currently not touring with anyone but always open to it. I love performing live and tours are fun!. If you are a professional band/artist looking for a live drummer to support your tour this summer/fall, then contact me at davidedrums@gmail.com

Toronto Trip 2011

Toronto was awesome I had a lot of fun and met some cool new people.
The Canadian Music Week event was held at the Fairmont Royal York, a high class hotel in the heart of Toronto. At the event I had a chance to meet Dereck Werner, who was a former Canadian Idol judge. I also met and networked with many music industry reps and bands from Canada and around the world.

I had the privilege to show-case my talent at two venues in Toronto; The Supermarket and The Relish. Both venues where packed and people enjoyed what they heard. I also had the opportunity to jam with local musicians.

I had a chance to see two friends perform; songwriter Deanna Prall and jazz drummer Morgan Childs. Deanna Prall, played a show-case at the Mod Club. Road Runner Records and Much Music hosted the show-case. Morgan Childs, who is an old high school friend performed at a jazz club called The Rex. Morgan was fantastic on the drums!!

I am looking forward to the next adventure. I want to thank my friend and mentor Eddie Black for making all this possible.

I Will Be At Toronto For The Canadian Music Week In March

Everything has been confirmed for Toronto this year!. I will be at Canadian Music Week to meet music industry people, network, check out bands and to hit some open jams. I am going with my mentor and good friend Eddie Black, who is a songwriter and promoter from western Canada. I am also excited to see my friend Deanna Prall at a showcase for the Canadian Music Week.

I am hoping to see some old friends and meet new ones!. keep posted for future updates, videos and pictures!

March It's Almost Here

I have been busy in the last month and a half working on other things not related to music. I came back to my home base in Canada which is Calgary, due to the fact that I was finished working with a band based out of Vancouver/Kamloops area called Throttlecaster and also I was mentoring a young guitarist based out of Vancouver by the name of Kenny K.

I have been rehearsing and going out to open jams around Calgary but that is about it for music. Thanks to my mentor Eddie Black, I am looking into heading out to Ontario near Toronto to work with a great singer out there. We are just waiting for confirmation from the other end. By the end of February I will know for sure if is a go!.

2010 Music Highlights

I had a great year in music this year. I was in Hollywood and had a chance to jam at Musicians Institute and also had a chance to see a band called OPETH. Checked out the city of LA....man it was so much fun!!!. I went with a great musician by the name of Kenny Kroecher who is a good friend of mine and who now lives in Vancouver.

In July I was in Quito, Ecuador and had a chance to meet Andres Ortiz, who is an incredible drummer and who also owns a label, studio, radio station and has a promotion company. Tritono Records, Pogo Productions and Expansion Productions. I also had a chance to check out a few live shows and had a chance to jam with my good friend Juan Saa who is the guitarist of the band MADBRAIN from Quito.

In August I relocated to Kamloops, BC to play live shows for THROTTLECASTER. I must admit I had a blast touring around Alberta and some parts of BC. The band is currently recording their second album. I decided not to record the drum tracks for this album. I do prefer to play live shows, I do consider myself a live drummer after all.

I want to thank Josh Bolen and Erko Nomm for the opportunity to have shared the stage with them...we had some great shows!!.

My friend and fellow musician Kenny Kroecher also played guitars for THROTTLECASTER this summer and fall. I had the opportunity to jam some great covers and one original song with him, which I recorded and posted on my Youtuve channel (make sure to check those out!).

I will keep you posted with my plans for 2011, my manager/mentor has something planned for me for next year and I will announce what that is when the right time comes!.

I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and all the best in the new year....2011!!!

Atomic Aura - Self-Titled

Occasionally, while writing for MNN, I run across something that I might not have the access to review that often. That’s the case with Atomic Aura, a four-man group from Alberta. This group rocks----figuratively and literally. Truth be told, they just might be one of the best “unknown” bands out there.

The group has released a five-cut EP that hopefully will give them some interest from the major labels---who would be well served to go ahead and start prepping the contract today.

On each of the cuts, the guitars are pristine….clear….and LOUD! The arrangements are crisp, and the vocals are impressive. Perhaps the best cut here is the 60s-ish “Throw It All Away,” where the band really gets in a zone…..but as the old saying goes….”It’s all good.” Crank down the windows and turn it up….NOW!

Cowboys stiffs winners?
Nightclub allegedly failed to deliver on contest’s advertised grand prize

Two local music talents claim they were spurned by the popular Cowboys nightclub after the establishment allegedly failed to deliver on promotional prizes involving opening for big-name acts.

Catherine Miranda competed in a Cowboys Star contest last month, which advertised online the winner would open for a “Stampede Band,” a band she said she was allegedly told would be Jo Dee Messina on July 7.

Miranda said days before the show she started getting the “run around,” and the night before the show she was told she would need a backup band.

She managed to get a band together, but on the day of the show Miranda was told she wouldn’t be performing. She has since been calling the bar repeatedly but hasn’t been able to find out what happened.

“I just think it’s ridiculous. All my friends came and supported me and spent money in their bar, but they never followed through on the prize.”

Local band Atomic Aura allege they were denied the prize of opening for Collective Soul on Canada Day, and one of the band members even lost his job to compete in the contest, according to band founder Eddie Black.

“It hurts. You feel really cheated and betrayed ... We worked really hard for this opportunity,” he said.
But he said he learned the hard way to get things in writing next time.

“I guess you have to make sure there is a contract,” he added.

Miranda and Atomic Aura were given offers to play different nights but both declined, saying they were cheated out of their real prizes and not given enough notice to play the nights they were asked to.

Comments from Cowboys were made off the record, though repeated requests for an official response went unanswered.

ATOMIC AURA TO RELEASE SONGS

Songwriter-guitar player Eddie Black and drummer David Espinel, have been busy working on the “Atomic Aura” upcoming demo. “The music is sounding good,” says Espinel “I believe in Eddie’s song writing skills, the music is pop/rock and catchy. I am sure people will really enjoy the songs we have created.”

“Atomic Aura”, was originally formed in March of 2008. On April 12th, 2008 the band passed an audition to enter a $100,000 Star Search Contest hosted by a local Calgary radio station Vibe 98.5.

“Atomic Aura” moved forward in the contest in May of 2008 and performed at one of Calgary’s largest clubs “Cowboys”. The band made the semi-finals in the contest and received outstanding reviews and positive feedback from all the judges in attendance, including a representative from Universal Music.

The demo is to be released in the spring of 2009 and a tour will be announced shortly after the release of the demo.

According to the “Atomic Aura” official myspace and facebook fan page, as of February 2009, there have been some changes in the bands line up including a new lead-vocalist by the name of Jeremy Mielke and bassist Will Vincent.

“Atomic Aura” is an optimistic group with passion and dedication to music. The pop melodies with rock/alternative guitar sounds are catchy and entertaining.

DAVID TO PERFORM WITH SOUTH AMERICAN ROCK STAR!

David will be in Miami, Florida, USA in mid March. He was invited by his friend Diego Saa who used to play for Verde 70 (V-70). V-70 was on the most popular rock-pop-latin bands in Ecuador and South America for ten long years. One of the major accomplishments V-70 had; they had toured across the United States at the 2004 Latin-Grammy-Awards after parties!. The band split up early 2007, after Dario Castro the lead singer of the band had decided to focus on his solo project. Due to the split Diego Saa decided to relocate to Miami in order to continue his music career.
After a conversation, David and Diego jokingly had said to each other, that maybe they should consider jamming again or perhaps share the stage and rock peoples faces off like they once did back in Quito in 1998!!.

Travelling with David will be Eddie Black his long time friend, fellow musician and promoter!. It has been confirmed that David and Diego will be jamming and will make a few appearances on some local establishments in the city of Miami.
